Welcome to Is Dinner Ready Yet?! You will find how to make a menu and grocery list, plus recipes and tips to give you ideas that will help you get dinner on your table.  I have always believed that a family should sit down to at least one meal a day together! It is a time when everyone can come in and share about their day, laugh and sometimes vent with those who care about them.  My family loves this time. It is usually a time of laughing, deep discussions, and sometimes pure silliness.  A lot of memories have been made around my dinning room table.  This website is a way to let you come from all over the world and join us at our table.

I’m Karen

I have been a stay at home, homeschooling mom to seven children for 29 years! One of the most daunting things I found while trying to manage a home, and give my children a good education, plus all the extra activities that go along with homeschooling, was to get good nutritious food on the table every night.

I had days that I would call my husband and ask him to grab a pizza on his way home, or as he arrived ask him to help fix dinner because I just couldn’t do it.  He actually loves cooking and would graciously help!  As my family grew, the option of bringing home expensive take out, or eating out, became less and less of an economic option! Even our once in a while going out to eat came to a stop because it cost so much to feed everyone.  So with practice, I came up with recipes that were sometimes even better than the restaurant’s and my kids would ask for me to make it rather than go out to eat. I am still working on some of our favorites!

One of the main things that I have found that helps the most is taking time out once a week and making out a menu plan and a grocery list. It is only a weekly plan, but it really takes a lot of worry out of the day when you know you have everything you need for a meal and you know what a meal is going to be for the day.  I’m not stressed over what is going to be for dinner and it frees up more time to spend with the kids in their school work or extra curricular activities.

My Goals

I have always wanted to write down my menus and recipes for a reference guide for myself.  There are times when I can’t remember what I make with chicken or hamburger and I want to get out of a rut of making the same things over and over again.  Then I remember a dish and I tell myself if I had them written down somewhere, I could have a reference to go to, to get out of that rut.  So, this is what this website is for!  This is going to be my reference guide!

Also, I want this to be a place where my children and grandchildren can come to, to get my recipes.  I wish my mom and grandmother had something like this to leave for me!  Plus, I get to share it with all of you that visit my site.  You are the ones who will help keep the site going for my future grandchildren.  Thank you!

I also want to thank Wealthy Affiliate for the excellent training, friendships made, and encouragement to keep going on this project! The platform there is great for anyone wanting to start up a new online business.  It is what has helped be able to stay home with my kids and still have a business at home.  I am hoping to be able to pass these business skills on to my kids someday as well.    If you are wanting a business that you can work at, from your home, check out Wealthy Affiliate!

The Goal of What’s For Dinner

This site will help you make a menu, write a grocery list, look for bargains, and give you recipes! Ultimately, freeing up time for you to be with your family and spend more quality time with them.

The fried chicken looks really good!
Can you post meal plans,… like, what would the sides be. I have a hard time deciding what vegetables or starches to serve. How about the gravy?

The gravy recipe will be coming in another post soon! I like corn with my fried chicken but any vegetable you like will go along with it…even a salad!

I love that idea of using this site as a reference… for both yourself and the rest of the world!
Thanks for sharing, Karen, and as I work on my habit of cooking for myself more often, I’ll be coming back to check in for ideas.
Who knows… I might invite my children over!
