Compare Keurig Coffee Maker Models – A Guide To Help You Decide

Holidays are approaching, and one of the things I see in many sales papers is the Keurig Coffee Makers. I have owned the Keurig Classic model for over six years now, and it is still working!

Keurig Classic

I did not expect it to work as long as it has because I have rusty water. At first, I used distilled water in it, but not long after getting my Keurig, I ran out of the distilled water and decided to use tap water. I have been using tap water now for years. The inside of my machine is rust-colored, so not very pretty, but I am getting my 1-2 cups of coffee every morning and an occasional cup for company. Having the machine work for this long makes me extremely happy.

I have been looking at new ones because I think my old one will give out at any time (I have been thinking that for the past two years) and probably at an inconvenient time at that. I was thinking of taking advantage of holiday sales! What I did not know is that Keurig has expanded their models since I got mine. I think mine is one of the very first ones they put out.
Here is the information I found when I compared Keurig Coffee Maker Models. I hope this helps you make a wise decision!

Who Should Consider a Keurig Coffee Maker?

I always thought the Keurig was for small households who did not drink that much coffee or those who want a specialty flavored cup now and then. After looking at all the different models Keurig has to offer, I changed my mind! Keurig has a machine for just about anyone. There are models for:

  • Households of 1- 2 people who want just a morning cup of coffee.
  • Individuals who want a cup now and then.
  • Larger households needing to make larger pots of coffee and want the option of having a single cup now and then.
  • Those who like specialty coffees like lattes and cappuccinos.
  • People who have smaller kitchens and need to save on counter space.
  • Offices that want to offer employees and customers a cup of coffee.

How Easy Is It To Use?

A Keurig is very easy to use! It has a large water reservoir that comes off easily to fill with water. After filling the reservoir, turn on the machine. It will take approximately 1-2 minutes for the water inside the Keurig to come to a boiling point. Flip the handle to open the top and add a K-cup to the opening. Close it with the handle, and this will create a hole in the top of the K-cup where the water will filter into it. Put a coffee mug underneath the spout and press the size of cup you want to make. That is it! You will have a hot cup of coffee within 1 minute.

How Do You Clean The Coffee Maker?

To Clean the Keurig:

  1. Add distilled white vinegar into the water reservoir and do not put in a K-cup. You want to run plain vinegar through the machine.
  2. Run the machine like you are making coffee, one cup at a time. Each time empty the cup of hot vinegar as you go. Do this until all the vinegar is used and reservoir is empty.
  3. Next, run a full reservoir of clean water through the machine. That’s it! Your Keurig is clean.

It is recommended that you do this about every six months to 1 year. I need to do mine a lot more often because of my hard water. Some models have an indicator telling when the machine needs to be descaled.

Model Options

Keurig has many models to choose from. Making your decision about which model to buy depends on your coffee drinking habits. Like, how many coffee/tea drinkers are in your household, types of coffee desired, and size of counter space.

You can purchase a small personal size one up to a large industrial office sized one, with many choices in between.

These three Keurig’s seem to be some of the most popular. They are all similar in size and take up an average amount of counter space. The K-Elite has the most features with a more extensive reservoir and the option of temperature adjustment and an Iced coffee option.

When I first got my Keurig, I was amazed and overwhelmed at the many brand and flavor options!  Plus, with the purchase of a filter, I was able to use any ground coffee I wanted.  If you have a favorite ground coffee, I do recommend getting the filter or paper filters.  It can also help economically to use ground coffee.  I normally use the K-Cups for specialty flavors or brands.

If this is your first time using a Keurig, I recommend getting a variety pack to try different brands and flavors to find out what kind you like the best.  There are also tea samplers for the tea drinkers in your household.  Don’t forget the kids!  A hot chocolate sampler is a sweet treat for them, as well.

This is just one out of many different variety packs!  Amazon has many to choose from at reasonable prices.

Update: I Purchased Two!

I finally took the plunge and replaced my old Kuerig!  I bought the classic again, since I was pleased with my old one.  Everything is the same except for one feature. I can now turn the machine on and set it to make a cup of coffee while it is in its warming stage.  I can leave it and when I come back, I have a hot cup of coffee waiting for me.  My old one would not allow me to set it to make a cup of coffee until it had gone through the warming stage.  I really like this updated feature.

Yes, I did purchase another machine!  I bought the K-Duo for our church.  It has the option of doing a single cup or 12 cups with the carafe.  Everyone likes the option of having a cup of regular brewed coffee that I make in the carafe or I provide flavored coffee pods for those who would like flavored.  They can make a single cup of flavored or the kids have used it for hot chocolate! My only complaint with this coffee maker is that when you have a full carafe pot on the warmer and switch to make a single cup, it turns off the warmer.  It isn’t that big of a deal with our small  congregation, I just keep my eye on it.  If we had more people, it might be hard to constantly keep turning it back and forth. You might want a different model if you are using it for a huge crowd.

Thanks for this great post my seven years old kid and I really love making the coffee every er blessed day, but by making it with a hand always delay him from going to school early and I also get late to work with this, I have always been thinking of getting the machine but I can’t find a good one and also don’t know the best for me but seeing this post has really enlightened me on which to get and how to get it thanks so much

Thanks for the comment, Rose!  If it is just the two of you, the Keurig Classic would work well unless you want to make specialty coffee.  I’m glad I could be of some help to you.

    Hello Karen!

Keurig comes in an enough large number of variants and sizes and this helps people decide which one would satisfy them best, when it comes also about space!

I guess these coffee makers do also a good job for preparing a fast Latte Macchiato… I remember that my mother had some coffee maker and she was preparing this beverage sometimes, however I cannot tell if the device was a Keurig one.

Classic and K15 models have nice colors, and the K155 Business model leaves us with an impression of power :). Most of them are quite affordable.

Also, the K-Cafe is clearly capable of Latte and Cappuccino – if I were to choose between coffee, Latte and Cappuccino, the third one would be my first choice. Reason: sweetness!

Thanks for showing all these Coffee Makers!

    Best regards,

Your welcome Peter! I like an occasional cappuccino as well, but since I am the only one in my household to like them, that machine would be too much.  Thank you for the comment!

Hi, I think its good for people who want only one or two cups of coffee and no more than that.  It is a healthy decision because it prevents you from drinking to much coffee.

I am not a fan of the cost per coffee but it is also is a much nicer experience as I think it tastes better. You only once as the saying goes.

if you can get it on boxing day or black Friday, then you will get a good deal.

It has been a healthier option for me!  I was making a four to twelve cup pot each day and felt like I needed to drink it.  Most of the time I would throw it away, and it made me feel like I was wasting.  So, now I can have my cup in the morning and an optional specialty coffee once in a while.

Yes, Black Friday is coming up!  A great time to buy!

That K-Mini Plus looks amazing. I love cappuccinos and even though it’s too much caffeine, I really enjoy them during the night time. My aunt loves coffee as well and looking at all the products and the features that you provided, I might just go ahead and bookmark this article for when I start Christmas shopping!

I have never heard of the Keurig brand of coffee makers. We are spoilt for choice from its wide range of coffee maker products. It is good that it is durable, long-lasting and easy to clean.

I would love to try one but on checking at your Amazon link on one of the models; the Keurig K-Classic Coffee maker retails at $59.99. That is okay if you are buying in the United States. To send to Malaysia, the shipping and import fees at $93.60 is more than one and a half times the cost of the coffee maker itself.

Hard luck we are so far away.

Azizah, that is a lot of money for shipping!  Maybe Amazon will open up service in Malaysia for those of you in that part of the county.  I guess we are spoiled here in the U.S.!
